Live performance photographs: 2013 Diggle Blues Festival

live performance photographs - diggle blues 2013Live performance photographs of blues musicians playing at the 2013 Diggle Blues Festival.

16/6/13

The festival takes place annually in June and dominates the village of Diggle in Saddleworth for four days. Musicians and fans travel from all over Britain to take part in the festival.

Photographing live music is constantly challenging. Low light, packed venues and unpredictable performances test my camera and ability to the limit. That said, the biggest distraction, for me, is always the music…I enjoy it too much.

The main venues for the festival are: The Hanging Gate; The Diggle Band Club; Kilngreen Hall and the Diggle Hotel. Peformers included: Victor Brox, Paddy O’Hare, Mike Sweeney, Bluzebox, Mike Parker, Big Joe Bone, Babajack and Arthur Cale. The event is organised by Dave Wood and associates.

Live Performance Photography Saddleworth: The Collective and Barclay James Harvest

Live performance photography Saddleworth for The Collective and Barclay James Harvest at the Swan in Dobcross, Saddleworth

I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the live performance photographs for the Collective and Barclay James Harvest at the Swan Public House, Dobcross, Saddleworth, Oldham. Paddy O’Hare and Mike Sweeney have been building a loyal following around the North West and are not slow when it comes to getting the message out. So how they kept this gem in the bag, I have no idea but,  it delighted their fans when, unexpectedly,  Barclay James Harvest arrived and supported the band.

The photos are great, I think we’ll use them all! I really like the red tint, it gives it a real, down home, blues club feel! Cheers, Paddy

A touching story set in the heady days Keystone Studios, director Mack Sennett and comedienne star Mabel Normad created magic together on-screen, but backstage their tempestuous relationship was threatened by the pressures of Hollywood and the advent of “Talkies”.

Mack & Mabel was originally nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, in 1974.

Full of memorable musical numbers including I Won’t Send Roses andMovies Were MoviesMack & Mabel is a poignant love story, set in a bygone age.

Live Performance Photography: Strictly Murder

Live Performance Photography: Strictly Murder by Brian Clemens

17/11/12

Saddleworth Players, Millgate Arts Centre, Delph, Saddleworth, Oldham, Greater Manchester

Brian Clemens’ “Strictly Murder” marks the Saddleworth Players’ directorial debut of acting stalwart Sam al- Hamdani.

Although this is his first time at the helm in the Millgate Theatre, Sam is no stranger to the director’s chair having directed for several other societies, notably the Rochdale Curtain Theatre.

In “Strictly Murder” Brian Clemens, who is probably best remembered as the creator of The Avengers and The Professionals, has written an intricate, interesting and enigmatic story.

It’s April 1939, and an English couple, Peter and Suzy, are living in Provence in idyllic isolation, far, it seems, from the rumblings of the coming war. Their peace is shattered from within when Suzy discovers she has been betrayed when she discovers Peter is not the man he claims to be. Suzy’s life is thrown into turmoil as the possibility arises that Peter may in fact be a ruthless killer on the run. When a Scotland Yard detective arrives, events become even more complicated and frightening, lies, subterfuge and murder make this fast- moving thriller a dark and disturbing roller-coaster of bluff and double bluff.
